WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action Deputy Director Bree Carlson today issued the following statement on the second presidential debate:
“Donald Trump knows he’s losing. What we saw tonight is a failed leader caught red-handed with more than 220,000 Americans dead from COVID-19, historic unemployment, the country’s global reputation in tatters, a barbaric immigration system that rips children from their parents, a resurgence of white nationalism, and unprecedented environmental devastation.
“Did Trump forget that he is president? His bungled response to this pandemic has failed all of us, particularly Black people, as well as the poor and working class. But even before the COVID-19 pandemic, our political system was broken for the vast majority of families. His administration has only made things worse by snuggling up to corporations and the wealthy.
“People are in crisis and we’re scared for our lives, and Trump is trying to distract us from his failures and peddle blatant lies to cover his tracks. We won’t stand for it. People’s Action has been working in overdrive to defeat Donald Trump, and his performance tonight showed us that we’re winning.”
