WASHINGTON, D.C.–People’s Action released the following statement from People’s Action Director George Goehl in response to President Trump’s tweet attacking a 75-year-old activist, Martin Gugino, seriously injured by Buffalo police. Gugino is an activist with PUSH Buffalo, a member organization of People’s Action.
“Martin Gugino is a 75-year-old member of PUSH Buffalo who was protesting the murder of George Floyd when he was savagely attacked by a police officer. Trump’s Twitter attack on Martin is yet another misleading attempt to distract people and undermine the protests. Deranged claims of an antifa conspiracy and attacks on our members will not take our focus away from fighting to defend Black lives.”
“We stand with Martin and everyone working to defend Black lives and defund police.”
