In response to the Trump administration’s attack on transgender people and transgender rights, Jessica Juarez Scruggs, interim director of policy for People’s Action, released this statement:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – “People’s Action condemns the dangerous and hateful actions of the Trump “administration. Defining gender by people’s sex organs at birth would deny millions of transgender, gender non-conforming and intersex people rights and protections under Title IX.

“This is just one more way the Trump administration is enforcing its extremist and hateful policies on our country. From giving billions in tax breaks to the one percent, attacking our families, and ripping babies from their families, this administration’s extremist cruelty knows no bounds.

“People’s Action stands with our transgender and gender non-conforming members and their families. We recognize the leadership that trans people, especially trans people of color, have always played in movements for justice and we commit to fight alongside trans leaders because we know the liberation of all people is tied together.

“We will not allow trans people to be written out of our laws. We will not be silent when trans people are threatened with discrimination and, all too often, deadly violence. And most importantly, this November we will remember the politicians who have supported these discriminatory, transphobic policies.

“All across the country our members are knocking on doors, making calls and voting for a government that will protect the health, freedom and dignity of everyday people.”
