WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action and Our City Action Buffalo today released the following statements by People’s Action Movement Politics Director Brooke Adams and Our City Action Buffalo member Robert Galbraith in response to Mayor Byron Brown’s announcement of his write-in campaign:

“This is a pathetic and last-ditch effort fueled and funded by real estate developers and corporate landlords,” said People’s Action Movement Politics Director Brooke Adams. “Together with Our City Action Buffalo, we will organize home by home and block by block to cement India Walton’s historic win. Our member organizations have done decades of grassroots organizing in Buffalo to rip power from developers and the elite and build power for the multiracial working class. People’s Action is ready to help finish the job so that come November, the City of Buffalo will finally have a Homes Guarantee mayor.”

“Byron Brown is a failed mayor. He failed to provide affordable housing for the city he runs. He failed to rein in violent and racist police practices. He failed to hold corporate landlords and real estate developers accountable. Last week, he failed to convince Democratic voters in Buffalo to return him to office,” said Our City Action Buffalo member Robert Galbraith. “It is sad that Brown aligned himself with Donald Trump’s New York State co-chair Carl Paladino for his high dollar fundraisers throughout 2019 and 2020 and now for a write-in campaign. His attempt to maintain power is vain and misguided. Our City Action Buffalo is confident the people of Buffalo will reject Byron Brown and Carl Paladino, and will refuse for their community to be sold out once again.”

People’s Action endorsed Walton in March as she headlined it’s national livestream event, Movement Politics 2021: Reimagine Safety Up & Down the Ballot. Our City Action Buffalo created a powerful people’s platform that India Walton built her platform on and will use to co-govern with the people of Buffalo. The People’s Action Homes Guarantee Campaign ran a hackathon that exposed the deep campaign finance connections between the incumbent and landlords, luxury real estate developers, and billionaires. Our City Action Buffalo and Homes Guarantee leaders with People’s Action Power made roughly 7,500 phone calls to support Walton’s campaign. People’s Action and Our City Action will continue their innovative and successful deep canvassing program to secure India Walton’s win in November.
