People’s Action and Member Organizations Called and Texted Over 11 Million Voters in Arizona, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, and New Hampshire
WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action today announced that along with its member organizations, over 11 million attempts to contact voters living in key battleground states have been made this election cycle, with a majority of attempts being deep canvass conversations. Canvassers tried to contact voters in Arizona, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, and New Hampshire. Of the total, about 2.3 million were phone calls and 8.7 million were texts.
By November 3rd, People’s Action and its member organizations expect to double these numbers to meet its ambitious goal of 5 million phone calls and 16 million texts, totalling a record-breaking 21 million voter contact attempts.
“No one has ever done deep canvassing at this scale and with this impact before. That’s because we’re not just training people to make transactional, minute-long GOTV calls—we’re empowering them to be organizers who make meaningful connections with people,” People’s Action Distributed Organizing Director Brooke Adams said. “What we’re doing here is historic. At People’s Action, we successfully applied deep canvassing to a robust volunteer community at a national scale, and have the numbers to prove it.”
Deep canvass phone calls are candid conversations between canvassers and voters in which participants reflect on the experiences that shape what’s at stake for them. These conversations are critical to not only defeating Trump but also to building bridges among a deeply divided America. People’s Action last week released new results from a deep canvass experiment it conducted showing that the method is about 102 times more effective at moving individual voters than the typical presidential persuasion program.
